Jorge Vázquez F.
Technical Representative for the Galapagos Islands
Jorge Vázquez believes his life changed when compassion for animals began shaping his actions and purpose. This transformation led him to dedicate his career to fostering coexistence between humans and animals. In 2016, he began his journey in Animal Welfare as Communications Manager for ERAH, the world’s first public office focused on the study of human-animal relationships under the Provincial Government of Guayas. He now leads the Responsible Coexistence Project in San Cristóbal, Galápagos, which offers a compassionate, alternative, and long-term approach to managing the presence of introduced species like dogs and cats through legislative measures, educational programs, and veterinary care. Additionally, he has recently started collaborating with the NGO Animal Balance to develop an amendment to Isabela’s current Urban Fauna Ordinance.

Jorge is also deeply involved in grassroots movements that seek social and environmental justice. His work includes supporting community-led initiatives to protect local ecosystems and opposing unsustainable development projects in the Galápagos.
He also enjoys working out every morning, surfing, swimming, and freediving the Galapagos.
