Animal Balance had a brief yet impactful 2-day clinic with our wonderful partners Caldwell County Animal Coalition TX in Lockhart Texas. Lockhart is a swiftly growing town between Austin and San Antonio. While downtown boasts charming historic homes and trendy restaurants, the surrounding areas are more rural and home to a large population of animals, including cats and dogs. It's important to note that the median income in this area is significantly lower than in the nearby bustling cities, and access to low-cost veterinary care is scarce. As a result, many animals in this area are reproducing with little to no access to necessary services.
During the clinic, temperatures soared into the high 90s, prompting our teams to work diligently to ensure both the animals and ourselves stayed cool. We utilized fans and ice packs to combat the heat. Together, we assisted 105 animals, including the Mayor pro tem’s beloved chihuahua Daisy Mae, pictured with her owners in front of our 50,000k banner! It's remarkable for their close-knit community to have leaders who set an example and a fantastic rescue that offers these vital services locally.
As part of this partnership, we offer low-cost spaying and neutering services to local small shelters so their animals can be ready for adoption. This weekend, sisters Ellie Mae and Emmylou stole our hearts. They arrived at the Luling Animal Welfare Society a little over a week ago, and they have been working hard to clean them up and fatten them up! Now they are up to date on vaccines and have been spayed. This means they are ready to find forever homes!
Thank you to Petco Love for providing vaccines for this clinic, Eldorado Cafe ATX for feeding us, and to every CCAC and AB person who came together to make this weekend happen!
